Pulmonary Function Test/Lab
The Franciscan Medical Specialists pulmonary function lab conducts pulmonary function testing (PFT), a non-invasive test that assesses lung function.
Our pulmonary function laboratory is staffed by expertly trained and certified pulmonary function technologists, under the direction of our Indiana pulmonary medicine physicians.
Pulmonary function tests are used for many reasons, such as lung function evaluation prior to surgery, detecting the progression of pulmonary disease, determining a treatment's effectiveness and screening for lung cancer and lung disease in Indiana. A PFT should also be done if you smoke, have a persistent cough, are frequently short of breath or if you have a known diagnosis of COPD, asthma or other lung disease but have not been treated within one to three years.
Our pulmonary function technologists also provide disease management education, including education on how to use inhalers and smoking cessation.
