What is ABI/PADnet testing?

ABI/PADnet is an important preventative screening test that checks for a circulation problem called peripheral artery disease. This tests looks for narrowed or blocked arteries, which restricts blood flow to the limbs.

How can I prepare for this test?

No special preparation is necessary.

How is the test done?

ABI/PADnet testing in Munster, INYou will be asked to lay flat on the exam table. Cuffs similar to blood pressure cuffs will be placed on each big toe, ankle, calf, thigh, and upper arm. The cuffs then pump up one at a time (similar to having your blood pressure taken). The entire test is computer operated and painless. Data is immediately transmitted to the doctor for interpretation.

How are the results used?

The test will show if there is restricted blood flow or peripheral artery disease (PAD). After your procedure you will receive a phone call from the doctor or medical assistant with any important results. If peripheral artery disease is present, your Indiana physician will discuss the course of action with you.

How long will the test take?

The test takes approximately 30 minutes.

What else do I need to know?

This procedure is noninvasive and completely painless (it's not uncommon for some patients to even fall asleep during it!). There are no special tasks you will have to do.
